Maintaining Your Hair Extensions
For anyone who has hair extensions, proper care is always a concern. The good news is, if you are concerned about how your extensions look, you will be much more likely to take care of them. However, if you think your extensions are going to magically look great, then you are mistaken. Although the majority of human hair extensions look healthy and shiny when you first get them, you've probably noticed that they can start to look dull and unhealthy after a few weeks of washing and styling. The key to maintaining great looking extensions is all in how you care for them. Here are some ways to ensure that your hair extensions will look great as long as possible.
Human Hair Shampoo's & Conditioners
When you washing hair extensions, it is important that you use a gentle shampoo that will not strip your extensions of excess moisture. Try to find a natural shampoo that will replenish lost moisture. In fact, if possible, you should use this type of shampoo for your real hair as well. The last thing you want is extensions that look healthy, and real hair that looks dry and damaged.
Quality daily conditioner. For your conditioner, you want to find a daily conditioner that will also replenish the moisture levels in your hair. If you can, try to find a conditioner that contains plant and/or fruit extracts. You don't want something that is too heavy, but since you are going to wash it out of your hair extensions, the more moisturizing your conditioner is, the better.
As with anything, it is all about trial and error, so many times you have to try several things before you find something that truly works for your particular hair extensions.
Hair Extension Detangler
Detangler. When your hair is tangled and you attempt to comb it, what usually happens? You look at the comb, and it is filled with hair that you pulled out in your rush to comb through the stubborn knots in your hair. When this happens with your real hair, you have the assurance that your hair will always grow back.
However, when you lose excess hair from your human hair extensions, that hair does not grow back. To avoid this, it is a good idea to purchase a leave-in detangling spray. It will help to make your extensions more manageable, and as a result, your extensions will stay thicker for a longer period of time.
Human Hair Heat Protectant
Heat protector. Another important step in caring for your hair extensions is finding a heat protector spray that will protect your hair from the damage that is caused from heat styling tools. It is important that you find one that is lightweight and will not make your hair look greasy and dirty.
Once you wash your hair extensions, the last thing you want is for them to look dirty just because of your heat protector. It is a good idea to test the spray on a small section of your hair in order to see if you like the results.
Human Hair Extension - Deep Conditioning Treatments
Deep conditioning treatment. Even if you take all of the right steps to keep your hair extensions looking great, daily wear and tear will cause them to lose moisture. A fantastic way to replenish this moisture is to apply deep conditioning treatment once a week or every other week depending how often you apply heat to your extensions.
